THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME
There is a moment on Kilimanjaro when the world seems to disappear. The noise of everyday life is far behind you. The air is thin. The landscape is extraordinary.

And somewhere ahead, above the clouds, is Uhuru Peak.
Standing at 5,895 metres, on the highest point in Africa, is an achievement you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

At Tusafiri Adventures, we believe getting there should be just as meaningful as reaching the summit.
That's why we create personalized Kilimanjaro trekking experiences built around careful planning, experienced local guides, sensible acclimatization and genuine Tanzanian hospitality.

The mountain is extraordinary. Your journey should be too.

DAY
01
Londorossi Gate → Forest Camp
Rainforest | Approx. 3–4 hours hiking
-
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins at Londorossi Gate, where your team completes the park formalities before you enter Kilimanjaro National Park.
-
From the gate, the trail winds into the lush montane rainforest. Tall trees, hanging moss and the sounds of the forest create a beautiful introduction to the mountain.
-
The first day is intentionally relaxed, allowing you to settle into the rhythm of walking at altitude.
Overnight: Forest Camp
Elevation: Approx. 2,780 m
DAY
02
Forest Camp → Shira Camp
Rainforest to moorland | Approx. 7–8 hours hiking
-
After breakfast, you continue your ascent through the forest before gradually entering the open moorland of the Shira Plateau.
-
The landscape changes dramatically as the dense vegetation gives way to giant heathers, volcanic terrain and wide-open views across the mountain.
-
As you gain elevation, Kilimanjaro begins to reveal its scale. On clear days, the surrounding landscape stretches far below you.
-
You arrive at Shira Camp with time to rest, enjoy a warm meal and take in the incredible surroundings.
Overnight: Shira Camp
Elevation: Approx. 3,840 m
DAY
03
SHIRA CAMP → MOIR CAMP
High-altitude acclimatization | Approx. 5–7 hours hiking
-
Today takes you deeper into Kilimanjaro's high-altitude environment.
-
Leaving the Shira Plateau, you cross a quieter section of the mountain toward Moir Camp, located in a dramatic valley surrounded by volcanic formations.
-
The day is deliberately paced to support acclimatization. Rather than rushing upward, you spend more time at altitude, allowing your body to gradually adjust to the changing conditions.
-
This is one of the more remote and scenic sections of the Lemosho Route.
Overnight: Moir Camp
Elevation: Approx. 4,200 m
DAY
04
MOIR CAMP → BARRANCO CAMP
Alpine desert | Approx. 6–8 hours hiking
-
After breakfast, the trail continues through Kilimanjaro's striking alpine desert.
-
You cross high-altitude terrain beneath the imposing slopes of Kibo before eventually descending toward the spectacular Barranco Valley.
-
The change in elevation during the day is intentional and forms an important part of your acclimatization strategy.
-
By afternoon, the famous Barranco Wall comes into view, creating one of the most dramatic scenes on the route.
Overnight: Barranco Camp
Elevation: Approx. 3,960 m
DAY 05
BARRANCO CAMP → KARANGA CAMP
Barranco Wall | Approx. 4–5 hours hiking
-
Your morning begins with one of Kilimanjaro's most memorable sections: the ascent of the Barranco Wall.
-
Although impressive from below, the wall is climbed using a natural trail rather than technical climbing equipment. Your mountain crew will guide you carefully through the ascent.
-
Beyond the wall, the trail continues through a series of valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp.
-
With a shorter hiking day, you have time to rest, recover and prepare for the final stages of your climb.
Overnight: Karanga Camp
Elevation: Approx. 4,035 m
DAY 06
KARANGA CAMP → BARAFU CAMP
Final acclimatization day | Approx. 4–5 hours hiking
-
Today you make your way toward Barafu Camp, your final high-altitude camp before the summit attempt.
-
The vegetation becomes increasingly sparse as you enter the stark alpine desert. The landscape is rugged, quiet and otherworldly.
-
At Barafu, your guides will brief you on the summit attempt, help you prepare your equipment and ensure you are ready for the early start.
-
An early dinner and rest are essential, as the summit push begins during the night.
Overnight: Barafu Camp
Elevation: Approx. 4,640 m
DAY 07
BARAFU → UHURU PEAK → MWEKA CAMP
Summit Day | Approx. 12–15 hours hiking
-
This is the defining day of your Kilimanjaro journey.
-
You wake around midnight and begin the ascent under the stars, following the trail slowly toward Stella Point on the crater rim.
-
The climb is demanding, but your guides will maintain a steady pace, allowing you to conserve energy for the final section.
-
From Stella Point, you continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at approximately 5,895 m.
-
Standing at the summit, you will have reached the roof of Africa.
-
After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs, you begin the descent toward Barafu before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
-
The descent is long, but reaching the lower elevation brings welcome relief after the summit.
Overnight: Mweka Camp
Elevation: Approx. 3,100 m
DAY 08
MWEKA CAMP → MWEKA GATE
Rainforest descent | Approx. 3–4 hours hiking
-
Your final morning on Kilimanjaro begins with breakfast before you descend once again through the lush rainforest.
-
The atmosphere changes quickly as you lose altitude and the vegetation becomes thicker.
-
Eventually, you arrive at Mweka Gate, where your Kilimanjaro adventure officially comes to an end.
-
After completing the park formalities, your private vehicle will meet you for the journey onward.
-
You leave the mountain with the memories, photographs and sense of achievement that come with standing on the highest point in Africa.
Hike complete. Journey accomplished.
